Green Master Plan for Lamia: Presented at the Thermopylae Forum 2026

The vision and strategic plan for a greener Lamia were presented by Giorgos Tentes, General Manager of Green2Sustain, during the “Thermopylae Chat: Building a Greener Lamia with Vision.”

The presentation outlined the key findings of the Green Master Plan developed by the company in collaboration with Deloitte.

Mr. Tentes began by outlining the city’s current situation: while the General Urban Plan envisaged 10 square meters of green space per resident, Lamia currently has less than 5 square meters per resident, with more than 25% of the Municipality of Lamia’s total area covered by asphalt.

Rather than being discouraging, these figures serve as the starting point for an ambitious plan to transform the city, with tangible benefits for residents’ everyday lives: a cooler city, cleaner air, and more public spaces for everyday life and recreation.

As he explained, the plan builds on the city’s existing vegetation and available urban spaces, with the aim of gradually connecting them into an integrated network and transforming Lamia into a truly biophilic city, guided by the principles of sustainability, biodiversity and resilience.

He cited Paris as an example, where a large square in front of City Hall was transformed into an urban forest: “You start with the available spaces and gradually connect them, making the city more open to nature,” he noted.
