Artificial Intelligence at the Service of the Citizen – The Algorithms That Transform the Public Sector

The opportunities and need to apply AI to the development of all…

In the era of artificial intelligence, the Thermopylae Forum 2025 could not fail to open a discussion by examining how artificial intelligence will be put at the service of the citizen, making their lives better.

So the topic “Public Interest Algorithms: Artificial Intelligence at the Service of the Citizen” began with the digital transition of the state.

” The digital transformation of the public sector is key to less bureaucracy and faster and better service for the citizen .” In the panel, Deputy Minister of the Interior  Vivi Charalambogianni , who before developing the role of algorithms in enhancing administrative efficiency, spoke about the need for evaluation in the public sector and the development and utilization of its human resources. ” Before the implementation of artificial intelligence, everyone who was evaluated seemed excellent or almost excellent ,” said Ms. Charalambogianni, who added the significant improvement in the image by utilizing artificial intelligence.

The Governor of Central Greece, Fanis Spanos , who participated in the panel, presented some of what artificial intelligence offers in practice, highlighting the innovations that are already being implemented in the Region’s services as part of its digital transformation. Especially as a region with many natural disasters.

Mr. Spanos spoke about the 114 services of the Region that are completely digital. One of the most important projects he mentioned is the software that is applied to civil protection for planning and responding to a phenomenon.

Orestis Andrianis , Senior Industry Manager at Google, shared with the attendees his valuable experience from a giant of the digital age, a pioneer in innovations. Valuable examples that can be adopted by all those who undertake business, finding solutions that they would not expect!

Also, Antonis Papadopoulos , Head of Growth & Strategic Partnerships of Break Even Group, presented the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence for the local community. He particularly focused on the need to connect local entrepreneurship and local authorities with the University of Thessaly as a basic prerequisite for leveraging innovation and creating real impact at the local and regional level.

Leonidas Rigas, High-Tech Venture Investor, emphasized the importance of artificial intelligence and spoke about whether Greece can “export” this sector. ” Greece produces people (3rd in the world) who work in this sector, but unfortunately many of them go abroad. We must create the conditions for them to stay in their country,” he said, among other things.

The moderator of the discussion was Panagiotis Pachaturidis, with many years of experience in the technology sector, as an investor in artificial intelligence companies. He even commented with humor that technology has advanced so much that he could have already written the questions and had artificial intelligence answer them, replacing his interlocutors.

As a conclusion, we could say that the future includes artificial intelligence in our lives and what is needed is to put it at the service of the citizen and not about how to replace the citizen!…
