“Beyond myth and the legendary battle, Thermopylae is a living space that can host stories, learning and human connection,” emphasizes architect Arthur Mamou-Mani.
World-renowned architect Arthur Mamou-Mani had the opportunity to share his vision for a new, modern approach to Thermopylae, through a special video screened during the Thermopylae Forum at the Vasilis & Eliza Goulandris Museum in Athens.
Mamou-Mani, known for his pioneering ideas in sustainable architecture and experience design, emphasized that Thermopylae is not only an iconic historical site – but also a landscape with enormous narrative and educational potential.
In the video that was shown, he presented a visionary version of today’s Thermopylae:
A landscape of courage redefined through modern architecture!
An area where gentle, light structures emerge naturally from the earth, paths gradually tell stories, and open spaces host children, students, and citizens who learn, discuss, and create.
“Beyond the myth and the legendary battle, Thermopylae is a living space that can host stories, learning, and human connection,” he said in his message.

The famous architect warmly thanked Vasilis Bartsokas (The Design Ambassador) and Elias Messinas, founder of ECOWEEK, for the invitation, as well as the founding members of the Thermopylae Forum, Dimitris Konstantopoulos and Christos Stamatis, who, as he said, are embarking on a symbolic and substantial project.
“We are deeply grateful to be participating in a conversation that bridges heritage, community, and regenerative design,” he noted.
The Mamou-Mani message was one of the most special moments of the Forum, highlighting the way in which the historical site of Thermopylae can be reinterpreted as a space for learning, inspiration and international cooperation.
